Two Big Tours Planned
My main tour will be to circumnavigate the UK and to this end I've drawn up some rules: This has been updated a few times since last August so here are the rules, as of November 1st 2020: Travel clockwise around mainland UK using coastal lines. Don't travel through the same station twice. Only use trains scheduled between 10:00 and 19:00. Avoid waits of over an hour unless convenient for a meal etc. When changing trains, don't leave railway property. Stay overnight at hotel or inn within 20min walk (2/3mile) of the station. After an overnight stay, continue from the arrival station. The circumnavigation will be about 2200 miles by rail. The other tour will visit the most northerly, southerly, easterly and westerly stations in mainland UK. These are Thurso, Penzance, Lowestoft and Arisaig. I'll travel a total of over 3600 miles by rail. Many people are surprised that Penzance isn't the most westerly station but Arisaig is about 13miles west of Penzance, and 1/3mile...
