Plans for Arisaig trip
This is from the Wikipedia entry for Arisaig, where I aim to be Thursday, 12 May
Other
items of interest, to me at least, are that the station is Category B Listed
and that during Covid-ridden 2020 it had just over 1000 passengers - that's
just 1/6 of it's normal traffic.
However, as I mentioned in the Plans for Thurso, I try to plan for transport going awry so here are my current thoughts about the Arisaig trip.
The London end is exactly the same as the Thurso trip so I won't repeat them here.
If the train from Euston to Fort William is cancelled:
Postpone this trip
and rebook for next week or later, although the Fort William sleepers are
heavily booked.
If the train from Fort William to Arisaig is cancelled:
Get the next train 4
hours later.
The weather is not expected to be conducive to wandering around remote Arisaig for 3 hours:
So I will take a few photos at Arisaig (with the train conductor's permission) and continue to
Mallaig where there are plenty of pubs and cafes.
If my planned train from Mallaig to Fort William is cancelled:
Get the next train 2
hours later.
If I'm already on the later schedule to Fort William and that train is cancelled:
There's a problem because there's currently only one hotel in Mallaig with a room that night!
If the sleeper from Fort William to Euston is cancelled
there are a few choices:
If I can get early train from Fort
William: Train to Glasgow Queen Street, sleeper from Glasgow Central to Euston.
If Friday's sleeper has space (unlikely) Stay overnight in Fort William
and return on sleeper to Euston
Stay overnight in Fort William and return on daytime trains via Glasgow
Queen Street, Glasgow Central to Euston. Arrive home approx. 10pm Friday.
